About the project
In the dim, quiet stillness of my friend’s underground parking garage, I came across an abandoned 1939 LaSalle Touring Sedan. Shooting it on 35mm film felt natural—its worn elegance and the noir-like shadows seemed perfectly suited to the gritty mood of 1930s Hollywood. Light filtered through cracks in the structure, casting haunting highlights on its streamlined fenders and narrow grille. Dust clung to every surface, yet the car’s timeless beauty still demanded attention.
As I framed each shot, I couldn’t help but think about how this car once symbolized accessible luxury, especially for women buyers in the late 1930s. Its graceful design and features like the optional “Sunshine Turret Top” must have felt so modern and aspirational back then. It was more than a car—it was a statement of style and independence.
Now, left to decay, it feels like a forgotten star of a bygone era, echoing stories of sophistication, glamor, and change.
